Congress Passes Measure to Disclose Jeffrey Epstein Records

The upper chamber of Congress on this Tuesday gave swift approval to a bill that will mandate the disclosure of case documents concerning the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a overwhelming vote in the US House of Representatives and a reversal by the president and his GOP allies. Trump's team changed course after months of trying to block the joint action involving a scandal that has plagued the president since his return to the White House.

Expedited Passage in Both Chambers

The Senate acted by consensus, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a recorded vote, accelerating the process. Just before, the House voted decisively for the bill on a massive majority.

Citizens have waited long enough. Those affected have waited patiently,” Chuck Schumer declared in a floor speech on Tuesday, before requesting the Senate to approve it without opposition. “Uncover the facts. Ensure full disclosure.”

Presidential Signature

The bill next will be sent to Trump for his endorsement. The president signaled on the previous day that he would sign the measure.

Though Trump has for an extended period rejected the outcry over the authorities' approach of the Epstein case as a “false narrative”, he voiced approval for the legislation over the past few days, and announced he would sign the measure if it comes to him.

Response

Opposition lawmakers, along with those affected and their representatives who were seated in a House gallery, broke into applause after the bill was passed. The only opposition came from a Louisiana Republican, who expressed concern he worried the measure would disclose personal information of individuals involved, persons of interest and others implicated in the investigation.
